Hi Critterville Citizens,
Before being dropped off at an animal shelter, a sweet ferret named Blacknose was kept in a cage in his owners’ basement for five long years. During this cruel confinement, a painful and cancerous tumor -- for which he received no medical treatment -- grew on his tail.
Meanwhile, another of these unusual and friendly pets, Garfield, was found on the street with a large infected mass extending over a hind leg. He had likely been abandoned by an owner unwilling to care for him.
A third ferret, Beethoven, was surrendered to a shelter with severe urinary problems, signs of adrenal disease, rashes all over his little body and an infected tooth that had broken off nearly at the root. Like his namesake, Beethoven was also completely deaf.
What would become of these helpless pets, in desperate need of the love and care their owners had failed to provide? Through your generous donation, American Humane can address this tragedy by assisting animals of all shapes and sizes.
They do so through their Second Chance® Fund, which provides funding to help animal shelters rehabilitate abused and neglected pets -- including Blacknose, Garfield and Beethoven. All three ferrets received the medical treatment they needed. Beethoven and Garfield have already found new, loving homes, and Blacknose is safe in a foster home, where he awaits permanent placement.
The good news is these precious ferrets will never suffer again. The bad news is countless other vulnerable animals are in danger. Please give generously today to help American Humane's animal welfare programs give many deserving animals a second chance!
